Deluxe Sock Puppets (Online, 2 Hrs.)

Tuesday April 20, 2021
This is a much more advanced version of a sock puppet class. This class teaches the basics of creating a puppet character, and all of the elements needed to do so. Then students will learn to build a mouth plate and by using this plate as well as some foam for shape, they will give their puppets a much greater range of motion and movement than an average sock puppet. Students will then proceed to create their characters and build their puppets.

*In addition to the kit included in the cost of this program, students will need a low temp glue gun with glue sticks, a black sharpie or marker, and some general craft supplies like feathers, pom poms, or pipe cleaners.

Steamrolled Puppets (Online, 2 Hrs.)
Wednesday April 21st, 2021
In this class I will challenge your puppet perceptions by asking; “What if the walls could talk, why wouldn’t they?” Walls as you know are generally really flat immovable objects and practically ignored. I mean we really don’t ever think of flat objects being capable of coming to life, and that’s where the challenge lies. Other flat surfaces have been known to emanate lots of life, movement, and stories, and we call them paintings. Your puppet, even a flat one
can be a work of art. This puppet will prove that flat objects can be brought to life too. Now, don’t even get me started on boxes!

*In addition to the kit included in the cost of this program, students will need a low temp glue gun with glue sticks, a black sharpie or marker, and some general craft supplies like feathers, pom poms, or pipe cleaners.

Pop-Up Puppetry & Paper Engineering (Online, 2 Hrs.)
Thursday April 22nd, 2021
Everyone loves Pop-Up books, just opening a page and having the paper come to life right before your eyes. In this workshop students will get a taste of the very basics to this fascinating art, focusing mainly on the paper mechanisms that will make things move across your page. Then we will create a few small projects to practice these skills.

In addition to the kit included in the cost of this program, students will need small scissors, large scissors, a black sharpie, a glue stick, a pencil, a ball point pen, a ruler, colored cardstock paper (optional), and colored markers (optional).

Foam Carved Puppets (Online, 2 Hrs.)
Friday April 23rd, 2021
Foam is a very dynamic material to build puppets from and nothing will demonstrate that better than this class! Students will learn how to carve foam using just a pair of scissors, and color their foam using pastels. This is a little more of a challenging class but it produces some fantastic and extremely dynamic puppets and will teach students some extremely unique puppetry skills.

In addition to the kit included in the cost of this program, participants will need a low temp glue gun with glue, small sharp scissors, and a black sharpie or marker.
