Field trips subject to change as needed to accommodate COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, weather, and program size

Sessions 1-3 Field Trips:

  • At this time, due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, there will not be any field trips during sessions 1-3. Because of this, the cost of the program has been reduced to a typical playground program cost-  $125. The program will also have the same hours of the other city wide playground programs, Mon-Fri 8:30am-2:45pm.

Sessions 4-6 Field Trips (pending restrictions are lifted):

  • Bus transportation is provided for all field trips and field days. Please make sure that your child or children is/are at the park no later than 8:45am on these days. We will return from all trips and field days in plenty of time for pick up.

  • In the case of inclement weather, field trips are subject to change or be moved to another day.

  • All participants will receive 2 Peabody Recreation t-shirts on the first day of each session. Participants will receive two shirts per summer. Participants must wear their Peabody Recreation shirts and will keep them on the entire time we are on trips (including while swimming). We suggest sending an extra shirt for them to change into for the bus ride home.

  • For all field trips to bodies of water, your child must complete a swim test ahead of time OR wear a life jacket the entire time. To complete a FREE swim test, please make an appointment at the YMCA. During the test, a parent needs to be present, with an ID, and you must bring a copy of your receipt for our program. To view information on swim testing and acquire the swim test form, please click HERE visit PeabodyRecreation.com.

  • Some field trips require additional waivers. If you did not complete these waivers during registration, please reference the parent letter to access the required waivers. Waivers are to be completed and submitted to the Recreation Supervisor on the first day of the program.

  • If you miss the bus, you can drive your child to the field trip/day location. If you do this, you are responsible to call the site coordinator and let them know you are coming. You must also stay with your child until you have signed them in at the field trip/day location.

Rain Day information

  • Due to COVID-19 indoor limitations, there is no indoor rain space and therefore, the program would be cancelled for the day if inclimate weather is expected.

    • To make the cancellation decision, there needs to be a 63% chance of rain (or higher) on 3 weather app's.

    • We hope to make all rain day decisions by 8pm the day before.

    • If a day is cancelled, you will be refunded for the day.

    • If an unexpected storm appears during a program day, participants will go to the Higgins Middle School and call parents to pick them up.

Participant Grouping Information:
As detailed in our COVID-19 Operational Plans, participants will be placed into groups. For the health and safety of your child(ren) these groups will not have interaction with children in other groups (unless guidelines change). While we are embracing this change, and hope it encourages kids to meet new friends over the summer, we also acknowledge that it is more comfortable for some children to be in a group with a familiar face. Although we cannot guarantee participant groups, if you would like us to try and place your child with someone they know, please fill out THIS questionnaire by Monday, June 22nd so we have time to accommodate as many requests as possible.

New in 2020: Our playground programs have been restructured!

This program is now inclusive for people with diverse abilities! You will be prompted to fill out a questionnaire on how we can best support your child during the registration process, as applicable.
